COMMISSION NATIONALE FRANÇAISE POUR L'UNESCO: PRESS CARTOONS AND EDUCATION
ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION
NGO Name:Commission Nationale Française pour l'UNESCO
In 2020, 2021 and 2022, close to 500 high-school and middle school student members of France's UNESCO Associated School Network will work with press cartoonists from the NGO Cartooning for Peace. The objective of this initiative is to foster a culture of discussion and debate and to raise awareness of the importance of freedom of speech among students.
ABOUT THE PROJECT
Professional cartoonists will lead workshops following the teaching method developed by Cartooning for Peace, helping students both decode press cartoons and express their opinions. By developing critical thinking skills, students will better their understanding of societal challenges in France and worldwide. These workshops will also invite students to set out on their own artistic adventures.
This project also includes the educational material developed by Cartooning for Peace, which consists of guide books and other resources for teachers. These materials address fundamental themes of society, including freedom of speech, censorship, women's and children’s rights, discrimination and the future of our planet. They also devote time to the Addis-Abeba Declaration, which recognizes the creation of political cartoons as a fundamental right.
